Parks, RCS Long-Range Plan

Collage of Lakewood parks and recreation offerings

The City of Lakewood is pleased to announce the release of the Public Review Draft of the Park, Recreation, and Community Services Long-Range Plan.

This draft plan outlines a vision for the future of Lakewood’s parks, recreational facilities, and community programs, reflecting input from residents, stakeholders, and community partners. We created this draft based on a survey of residents ages 12 up and who live, work or play in Lakewood.

We invite the public to review the draft and help shape the final plan by sharing feedback by Sunday, Aug. 10.

Your input will ensure that Lakewood continues to meet the evolving needs of our community for years to come.

The long-range plan will:

  • Engage the Lakewood community in a variety of outreach channels to ensure the Plan reflects the needs of our residents.
  • Involve advisory boards and key leaders to inform decision-making.
  • Provide an overarching investment strategy that balances fiscal responsibility, sustainable management practices, unmet park system needs and evolving recreation trends.
  • Explore options for improvement, re-use, and/or expansion of the park and recreational system.
  • Establish directions to enhance our parks, recreation facilities, programs, events, and community services to support quality of life, health and wellness, community cohesion, safety, access and inclusivity.

Timeline

We anticipate completing the project in mid-2025.
