Parks, RCS Long-Range Plan

The City of Lakewood is pleased to announce the release of the Park, Recreation, and Community Services Long-Range Plan.
The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Long-Range Plan (the “Plan”) serves as a foundational guide for the City’s ongoing recreation initiatives.
It provides a strategic framework to ensure the efficient and effective allocation of public resources to maintain, enhance, and expand recreational facilities, programs, services, and events.
The Plan reflects a significant investment in community engagement, with 1,848 residents contributing through interviews, focus group participation, pop-up event interactions, or by completing the Plan survey.
The draft Plan was made available for public review during an initial 30-day public comment period from July 9 to Sept. 12, 2025.
While the Plan is a valuable resource, final decision-making authority rests with current and future City Councils, who govern with the best interests of residents in mind.
The long-range plan:
- Engages the Lakewood community in a variety of outreach channels to ensure the Plan reflects the needs of our residents.
- Involves advisory boards and key leaders to inform decision-making.
- Provides an overarching investment strategy that balances fiscal responsibility, sustainable management practices, unmet park system needs and evolving recreation trends.
- Explores options for improvement, re-use, and/or expansion of the park and recreational system.
- Establishes directions to enhance our parks, recreation facilities, programs, events, and community services to support quality of life, health and wellness, community cohesion, safety, access and inclusivity.
