Lakewood transportation services

Lakewood DASH

Lakewood’s DASH Transit service helps eligible Lakewood residents get around the community when they do not have their own transportation.

DASH provides free transportation for Lakewood residents age 60 and older and residents of any age with disabilities who have limited or no access to private transportation. The service takes eligible riders to medical centers and community facilities in Lakewood and a limited number of destinations outside the city.

Pre-registration is required, and trips are by reservation only.

For registration information, call the DASH office at 562-924-0149 or visit the DASH Transit and Buses page.

If you need assistance registering or would like to complete the process another way, contact the DASH office.

Dial-A-Lift

Dial-A-Lift is a curb-to-curb paratransit service provided through Long Beach Transit for eligible riders with disabilities. The service takes eligible passengers to destinations in Long Beach, Signal Hill and Lakewood.

Like Lakewood DASH, pre-registration is required.

For Dial-A-Lift registration information, call 562-591-8753 or email dialalift_web@lbtransit.com.

Plan a trip by bus or rail

If you are new to public transit, your first ride will likely be on a local bus. Review your route before leaving, check your stops and transfer points, and plan to arrive at your first stop about 10 minutes early.

Most buses, trains and subways provide audio and visual announcements for upcoming stops. On buses, press the stop-request strip or pull the cord when your stop is approaching. Metro rail trains stop at every station along the line.

Long Beach Transit

Long Beach Transit operates several routes serving Lakewood and nearby communities. Many routes connect to downtown Long Beach, Lakewood Center and other regional destinations.

Use the Long Beach Transit routes and services page to view maps, schedules and trip-planning tools.

Metro bus and rail

Metro provides regional bus and rail service throughout Los Angeles County. The Metro website includes schedules, maps, a trip planner and tools for using TAP.

Plan a Metro trip

Metro’s A Line connects Long Beach with downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena and Azusa. Long Beach Transit routes 191 and 192 provide connections from Lakewood to the Del Amo Station for Metro A Line service.

The Regional Connector links Metro rail lines through downtown Los Angeles, allowing direct rides between Long Beach and Azusa on the A Line, and between East Los Angeles and Santa Monica on the E Line.

TAP cards and payment

A TAP card or TAP app can be used to pay fares on Metro and many other transit systems in Los Angeles County.

  • Each rider needs their own TAP card or TAP account.
  • TAP cards can be purchased or reloaded at Metro rail stations, TAP vending machines and online.
  • Virtual TAP cards can be added to compatible smartphones and smart watches.
  • Long Beach Transit accepts TAP cards, the TAP app and cash. Exact fare is needed when paying cash.
  • Metro rail does not accept cash onboard. Riders use a TAP card, TAP app or accepted digital payment option.

For TAP information, visit TAP.
