Volunteer Coaching

Coach giving basketball to boy

Throughout the year, Lakewood Youth Sports organizes coached teams and league play in youth baseball, softball, flag football, basketball and volleytennis.

Volunteer coaches help make these programs possible and continue a Lakewood tradition dating back to 1957, when volunteers helped support the city’s early park programs.

Coaches are especially needed for baseball, softball and t-ball teams during the summer season at Lakewood parks.

Parents and guardians of players make great coaches, but it is not necessary to have a child in the program to volunteer. No coaching experience is required. City staff provide training and support.

For details about becoming a volunteer coach, ask at any Lakewood park or contact Recreation and Community Services at AccessRecreation@lakewoodca.gov or call 562-866-9771, ext. 2408.
