Lakewood has a strong tradition of volunteering and supporting those in need.

That spirit of service helps create a connected community and contributes to the high quality of life Lakewood has enjoyed since 1954.

There are many ways to get involved, and even a small time commitment can make a meaningful difference.

Give locally

If you are able to give financially, here are some local charities that specifically help Lakewood neighbors in need.

Help Project Shepherd

Help is needed throughout the year. Donations are always accepted at the Burns Community Center, Lakewood City Hall, or any city park facility.

Teen Volunteer Programs

Lakewood has many opportunities for teen volunteers with city park and human service programs, or in community and civic groups.

Help Lakewood 'Thank a Servicemember'

The City of Lakewood's annual 'Thank a Servicemember' campaign collects cards, letters and even hand-drawn pictures and messages of gratitude to send to U.S. troops stationed overseas.

Volunteer Day

The Lakewood community’s giving tradition is renewed each April, on a Saturday, when hundreds of volunteers fan out across the city to participate in Volunteer Day projects.

The Volunteers on Patrol (VOPS) program is a community volunteer program that allows residents to support local public safety efforts in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Volunteers serve as extra eyes and ears in the community.
