Lakewood aquatics

The City of Lakewood operates two public swimming pools and six wading pools during the summer season.

The aquatics season typically begins in late May, with pre-summer swim lessons and recreation swim beginning around Memorial Day weekend.

Pool rentals

Mayfair Pool and McCormick Pool may be available for private pool rentals during the aquatics season.

Rental dates, times, availability and fees vary by season. For details, call City Hall at 562-866-9771, ext. 2408.

Swim lessons

Lakewood offers swim lessons for a variety of ages and skill levels. Offerings may include:

  • Youth lessons: Parent-and-child, preschool and youth levels for children and teens.
  • Adaptive lessons: Introduction to water and swimming lessons for participants with disabilities or additional support needs.
  • Semi-private lessons: Small-group instruction offered during limited seasonal time slots.
  • Private lessons: One-on-one instruction offered during select seasons and locations.
  • Adult lessons: Lessons for ages 16 and older.

Pool rules

  • Come ready to swim in an approved swimsuit.
  • A swim test is required for use of the diving board. Detailed requirements are posted at each pool location.
  • Unaccompanied swimmers must meet the minimum height or swim-level requirement posted at the pool. Younger swimmers who do not meet the requirement must be accompanied in the water by an adult and remain within arm’s reach.
  • Swim diapers are required for young children who need them and may be available for purchase at the pool.
  • Approved swimwear is required. Cut-off pants, leotards, sweats, baseball shorts and shirts are not allowed, except rash guards.
  • Suits and towels are not provided.
  • Only swimmers in proper swimwear may remain on the pool deck. Others must stay in designated spectator areas.
  • Swimmers with long hair must tie it back.
  • No toys, inflatables, water wings or life jackets are allowed in the pool, except U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets.
  • City pool personnel may conduct emergency drills during recreational swimming, lap swim, swim lessons and rentals as part of ongoing training.
  • Classes are subject to minimum enrollment, cancellation and schedule changes.

Family swim nights

Family swim nights may be offered during the summer season at McCormick Pool.

Recreation swim

Recreation swim is typically offered during the summer season at Mayfair Pool and McCormick Pool, with additional weekend availability at select times.

Wading pools

Lakewood’s wading pools are typically open during the summer season for younger children.

Wading pool locations include Mayfair, Palms, Del Valle, San Martin, Bloomfield and Mae Boyar parks. Schedules vary by location.
