Tenant protection information
HRC is a member of the Stay Housed LA County coalition. If you receive a notice from your landlord or from a court, contact Stay Housed immediately.
For some properties in Lakewood protected by the Tenant Protection Act (TPA), rent increases are limited to 8.9% through July 31, 2025, and tenants may not be evicted unless the landlord has a just cause or legal reason for eviction.
Federal, state, and local laws protect against discrimination based on factors including race, sex, religion, age, national origin, disability or medical condition, sexual orientation and gender identity, and others. See the Fair Housing Brochures in English and Spanish under Related Information on this page.
Tenants with disabilities, or conditions that limit daily life activities, are entitled to request accommodations and modifications in their homes. HRC can assist in making these requests. Learn about Disability Accommodations in Housing.
