Apply for a business license

All businesses operating in the City of Lakewood must have a business license.

Payment is not collected when you apply. You will be notified of the amount due once your application is approved.

Business license applications are processed through a third-party system that may not be fully accessible.

If you have questions or need assistance completing your application, contact BusinessLicensing@Lakewoodca.gov or 562-866-9771, ext. 2622. Staff can assist you by phone, email or in person to complete your application.

In person

If you prefer to apply in person, Administrative Services staff will assist you at City Hall.

Visit the Administrative Services counter near the Clark Avenue entrance.

  • Your application will be reviewed and you will be notified of the amount due once approved
  • Payment is not collected when you submit your application

Specialty business licenses and permits

The following permits are handled directly with City staff:

  • Massage business license
  • Peddler-solicitor license
  • Sidewalk vendor permit
  • Film permit
