Lakewood's Building & Safety staff can help you through the steps of getting building permits for both commercial and residential projects.

We protect public health and safety through implementation of the building, plumbing, electrical, green, residential and mechanical codes by issuing permits and conducting inspections.

Building & Safety services are provided for the City of Lakewood by TRB+ Associates, including plan check, permitting and inspection support.

Apply for permits online

The OpenGov Building & Permitting portal is provided through a third-party system and may not be fully accessible. If you need help using the portal or need assistance with the permitting process, contact Community Development at CD@lakewoodca.gov or call 562-866-9771, ext. 2340. Additional accessibility assistance is available at ADACoordinator@lakewoodca.gov.

Pre-Approved ADU Program

Property owners can access pre-approved ADU construction plans to streamline the process. Architects and designers may submit standardized ADU construction plans for review by the City of Lakewood.

Construction and Demolition Debris

Residents, contractors and homeowners can find instructions for submitting a Construction Debris Recovery Plan through Green Halo. Green Halo is replacing the paper applications.
