Section 8 Housing Assistance

Section 8 housing assistance programs in Lakewood are administered by the Los Angeles County Development Authority, also known as LACDA.

The program helps eligible households afford safe, decent rental housing by providing rental assistance through participating private landlords.

How Section 8 works

Participants rent housing from private landlords and pay a portion of their income toward rent. LACDA pays the remaining approved rental assistance amount directly to the property owner.

Property owners, participants and LACDA each have responsibilities in making the housing assistance program successful.

Tenant protections

Tenants who use Section 8, housing vouchers or other public assistance may have protections against source of income discrimination.
