Planning Review Process

Step 1.Check to see if your residential project is included below

• Additions
• Air conditioning units
• Demolition
• Dwelling units, new (including ADUs)
• Electric vehicle charging equipment
• Landscaping (front yard)
• Porches and patio covers
• Pools and spas
• Remodeling (interior and exterior)
• Sheds
• Solar
• Walls and fences
• Water heaters, exterior or in garage
• Windows, where the number, location or size of openings is changing

Step 2.Contact Planning staff with questions

Planners are available for phone or in-person consultation at the Community Development counter at City Hall during normal business hours. 

Call 562-866-9771, extension 2340 for help.

Building Plan Check and/or permitting may be required following Planning approval.

Step 3.Submit your plans 

Go to Lakewood's Planning Portal. 

or

Visit the Building and Safety counter at Lakewood City Hall.

Go to Lakewood’s Planning Portal.

Once you have Planning approval, you may submit your plans to Building Plan Check.
