KTLA-5’s Ginger Chan helps honor Lakewood heroes

Every November, Lakewood honors the brave acts of heroism demonstrated by the men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and Fire departments, as well as good Samaritans and volunteers from Lakewood who protect and serve our community. 

Ginger Chan, from KTLA-5’s morning news and the “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” KIIS-FM team, hosted the Nov. 5 Award of Valor luncheon at The Centre in Lakewood with over 200 people in attendance. Twenty-three civilians and Sheriff’s and Fire personnel were honored by the Lakewood City Council and top officials from the L.A. Sheriff’s and Fire departments.

• The Lakewood Engine 45 crew deployed as part of Strike Team 1103 during the fast-moving wildfire in the Pacific Palisades that threatened multiple neighborhoods. For almost 24 hours straight, the crew held the fire line to stop advancing flames to protect both lives and property under extreme fire conditions. Watch this video clip honoring the Engine 45 crew.
• Two members of Lakewood’s Public Safety team who found an unhoused man suffering from a stab wound secured emergency help, uncovered the truth behind the assault and worked with deputies to identify and safely detain the suspect. Watch this video clip honoring the Public Safety staff.
• A longtime restaurant customer who witnessed a robbery in progress, called 911 and provided calm, real-time updates that helped deputies quickly locate and arrest the suspect and recover the stolen cash. Watch this video clip honoring a civilian for her quick action.
