Recycling for apartments and multi-family complexes

Residents and multi-family property managers can help improve recycling at apartments, condos and townhomes by setting up convenient recycling options and sharing clear information with residents.

Lakewood’s Public Works Department may be able to provide recycling guidance and educational materials for multi-family properties.

Recycling support for multi-family properties

Depending on the needs of the property, EDCO can help provide an appropriate number of large blue recycling bins for a multi-family complex. Educational materials and outreach information may also be available.

Apartment residents may also be able to use small, portable in-unit recycling containers to collect recyclables before taking them to the property’s recycling bin.

Common recyclable items

Accepted recycling items may include:

  • Aluminum, tin and steel cans
  • Cardboard, flattened when possible
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Mixed paper, including file folders and junk mail
  • Newspapers, including inserts and coupons
  • Plastic containers marked with numbers 1 through 7 or labeled California Redemption Value
  • Telephone books and magazines
  • White and colored paper

Do not bag recyclables. Place accepted recyclables loose in the recycling container.

For the most current list of accepted recycling items, visit EDCO’s recycling guide.

Organics recycling

Multi-family properties may also be required to separate organic waste, including food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard waste. EDCO can help property managers determine the best recycling and organics service setup for their complex.
