Lakewood's Building & Safety staff can help you through the steps of getting building permits for both commercial and residential projects.
We protect public health and safety through implementation of the building, plumbing, electrical, green, residential and mechanical codes by issuing permits and conducting inspections.
NEWS UPDATE
The City of Lakewood is transitioning Building & Safety services from Los Angeles County to TRB+ Associates.
LA County staff and the City are working together to ensure a smooth handoff so projects in progress continue without interruption.
Projects already in review
With the help of LA County, the City is securing all plans that are pending plan review (plan check). Those plans are being evaluated by TRB+ Associates to determine the most appropriate next steps for review.
New online portal launched Oct. 9
As of Oct. 9, the City launched the OpenGov Building & Permitting portal. Through OpenGov, you will be able to:
- Submit building plans
- Pay plan-review (plan check) fees
- Receive electronic comments
- Track review status
- Resubmit revised plans
- Obtain permits
- Request inspections
If your project is in transition
If your project began with LA County and is moving to TRB+ Associates, please use OpenGov on or after Oct. 9 to submit any revised plans that address LA County’s corrections.
