For some properties in Lakewood protected by the California Tenant Protection Act, rent increases are limited to 8% through July 31, 2026, and tenants may not be evicted unless the landlord has just cause, or a legal reason for eviction.
Tenants using Section 8, housing vouchers or other public assistance may also have source of income protections. Learn more about Section 8 and source of income protections.
Federal, state and local laws protect against housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, ancestry, familial status, source of income, disability, genetic information and other protected characteristics.
See the fair housing brochures in English and Spanish under Related Information on this page.
Tenants with disabilities or conditions that limit daily life activities may request reasonable accommodations or modifications in their homes. HRC can assist residents with these requests.
