Juneteenth: StoryWalk®

Juneteenth Story Walk June 20 at Iacoboni Library

In honor of the holiday, the City of Lakewood has partnered with Iacoboni Library in co-hosting a special outdoor event on Friday, June 20.

No registration is required.

Join other community members for a StoryWalk® which engages families in a walk around Lakewood’s Civic Center reading pages from a young children’s Juneteenth book displayed in a unique manner.

StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont.

The family-focused event begins at 3:30 p.m. and features:
  • Light refreshments and treats (while supplies last).
  • Giveaways.
  • Self-guided StoryWalk® that enables families to enjoy the displays at their own pace until 5:30 p.m.

NOTE: This event will be held entirely outdoors on a summer afternoon, with the StoryWalk® path set up on grass, so please dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes.

While library staff will engage with guests on the walk until 4:30 p.m., the StoryWalk® display will remain up until 5:30 p.m. and is designed to be self-guided.

Please note, all L.A. County Library branches will be closed on June 19 for the holiday, but an abundance of Juneteenth-related resources and multimedia options can be found on LACountyLibrary.org/celebrate-juneteenth.
