Urban Water Management Plan
The Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) is a long-term planning document for the City’s water utility, which serves all of Lakewood west of the San Gabriel River.
The plan evaluates current and future water use and helps ensure a reliable water supply for the community.
The Urban Water Management Plan is updated every five years in accordance with state requirements.
What the plan includes
The UWMP examines:
- Projected changes in population and land use that may affect water demand
- Historical water use by source (such as groundwater, imported water and recycled
water) and by customer type
- Projected water supply and demand over a 20-year period, based on the
2020 per capita per day water use target of 99 GPCD required by state mandate
- Water conservation programs, including water audits, water-saving devices and public outreach
- A water shortage contingency plan, including water use restrictions and conservation strategies
