Expect delays on Clark Avenue

Traffic cones on street

Fiber-optic construction work on Clark Avenue will affect traffic for the next several weeks due to lane closures between Del Amo Boulevard and Ashworth Street.

Work in front of City Hall and Lakewood Center is expected to last through approximately the first week of December, with the remainder of the project continuing northbound through the end of December.

Construction is scheduled for Nov. 24-25 (Monday and Tuesday), with work pausing for the holiday weekend and resuming on Monday, Dec. 1.

What to expect

  • Work hours: Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays and some weekends. Lanes will reopen after hours and on weekends, unless posted otherwise.
  • Traffic delays. Expect delays near Lakewood Center and City Hall. If you are going to Albertson’s, Home Depot or Best Buy, use entrances from Del Amo Boulevard or Candlewood St. For Iacoboni Library, City Hall or the Centre, enter via Civic Center Way between Del Amo Boulevard and Candlewood Street. The front parking lot of City Hall will remain open.
  • Internet service. Current service in the area should remain uninterrupted during construction. A brief outage may occur only when crews connect the new service lines.

About the project

The Gateway Cities Council of Governments’ Fiber Optic Network Project is installing new underground fiber lines and connecting them with existing networks to benefit communities and businesses in the region.

The new regional fiber optic network will link city halls in 24 cities, including Lakewood, Long Beach, Paramount, Bellflower, Downey and Cerritos, and will expand high-speed internet access to 4,200 underserved locations across the region.

The $104 million project is funded from various sources, including the California Public Utilities Commission and the California Department of Technology. It comes at no direct cost to local governments. Completion is expected by December 2026.
