College Information Workshop

As a follow-up to Lakewood's Oct. 13 College Fair, parents and teens are invited to attend a free College Information & Admissions Workshop held on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Lakewood Youth Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

High school students and their parents are invited to a dynamic conversation and presentation by independent college admissions expert John H. Wilson, III, founder of the nonprofit Deacon Education and Advancement Collaborative on the costs, processes and requirements to enroll in college successfully, given recent legislative and economic changes.

Get answers to the top frequently asked questions and discover alternative college processes that are far more career effective and affordable. 

College Information Workshop: Important Changes in the College Prep, Application and Enrollment Requirements Workshop

Topics include:

• Preparing for college: Academic preparation, choosing a college based on fit, function and value, and updates on the SAT and ACT
• College costs and financial aid: Major changes to college loans and financial aid as of July 1, 2026, what families can expect to pay by college type, and paying for selective private colleges
• College, careers and return on investment: The connection between college and careers in STEM and non-STEM fields, the importance of ROI and why students need to understand it
• Finding strong college options: 10 colleges your student should consider that may not be on your radar, including colleges offering strong ROI
• Q & A segment
