Mayor Jeff Wood was first elected to the Lakewood City Council in March 2011. He was re-elected to a second term in March 2015, a third term in March 2020 and re-elected to a fourth term in March 2024 by the voters of the new District 3.
He previously served as mayor in 2015-2016 and 2021-2022, and is currently serving a third term in 2026-2027.
From 1999 to 2011, Jeff was a member of the Lakewood Recreation and Community Services Commission, serving three terms as commission chair.
Jeff recently retired after an extensive career in risk management, business continuity, occupational safety and health and emergency management.
Jeff is a graduate of Lakewood High School and California State University, Long Beach, where he received a degree in Speech Communication.
Mayor Wood serves on the Regional Council of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) representing Region 24 which includes the cities of Lakewood, Bellflower, Paramount and Signal Hill. He was elected vice chair of SCAG's Community, Economic and Human Development (CEHD) Committee in March 2026.
Jeff serves as chair of the SELACO Workforce Development Policy Board, is a member of the Los Angeles County Commission on Local Governmental Services and the Los Angeles County Library Commission.
Jeff has been active in regional collaboration and in 2022-2023 he served as president of the California Contract Cities Association representing 80 member cities and nearly 8 million Californians, and continues to serve on the executive board.
Mayor Wood is a supporter and volunteer with many community-based and nonprofit organizations serving Lakewood residents. He was the co-founder of Lakewood Lemonade Day and remains active with the annual youth entrepreneur program sponsored by the Lakewood Jaycees.
Mayor Wood's current term on the City Council runs through March 2028.
