Lakewood’s enduring commitment to our business community
Published on February 02, 2026
Last week, the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce announced it will close its operations and discontinue its monthly newspaper, Lakewood Community News.
While this news is met with understandable sadness, the City of Lakewood offers our sincere thanks to the Chamber for more than 70 years of service to Lakewood and its business community.
For generations, the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce played a vital role in supporting local businesses and strengthening our community. From ribbon cuttings and grand openings to mixers, collaborations and advocacy, the Chamber helped celebrate milestones, build relationships and tell the story of Lakewood’s business community. We are grateful to the Chamber’s leadership, members, partners and volunteers for their lasting contributions.
Lakewood’s businesses have always been — and continue to be — pillars of our city. From the earliest days of Lakewood as it transformed from farmland to a bustling post-World War II planned community where thousands of young families moved into newly built homes, to today’s still thriving bedroom community, local businesses have played a major role in supporting our residents and their needs. There is no doubt that our businesses have helped shape Lakewood’s identity, support our economy and create the places where our community gathers, shops and grows. The City of Lakewood stands firmly alongside our business community and remains committed to its continued success.
Business owners and entrepreneurs are encouraged to visit the City’s website to explore available resources and learn more about how the City’s Community Development Department and dedicated public servants continue to support businesses at every stage — from opening day, to milestone anniversaries, to long-term growth.
In the months ahead, the City looks forward to sharing exciting new initiatives as we shine a spotlight on Lakewood businesses, share important news and celebrate the contributions that make our community thrive.
As noted in the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce’s message, residents and businesses are encouraged to stay connected by signing up for the City’s weekly eMagazine and following the City’s official social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) for news, updates and announcements.
While this chapter closes, Lakewood’s future remains strong, and the City remains committed to serving our business community every step of the way.
