At its May 12 meeting, the Lakewood City Council conducted a public hearing and approved the city’s Fiscal Year 2026-27 Community Development Block Grant Action Plan.

The annual plan is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for cities that receive Community Development Block Grant funding. It identifies how Lakewood plans to use federal CDBG funds in the coming year to support eligible housing, community development, public service and neighborhood improvement activities.

Under federal requirements, at least 70% of CDBG funds must be used for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income individuals, help eliminate slum and blight or address urgent community development needs.

Lakewood’s proposed projects for the year include funding for code enforcement, fair housing services, housing rehabilitation support, the Façade Improvement Program and several community service programs, including Community Family Guidance, Meals on Wheels, Pathways Volunteer Hospice and the Human Services Association.

The city’s short-term goals under the plan include supporting neighborhood conservation, promoting fair housing awareness, maintaining programs that serve residents in need, improving public facilities and streets in eligible neighborhoods, expanding economic opportunities and coordinating with agencies that assist people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

As part of the required public review process, the city published and posted notices announcing the public hearing and public comment period. The draft Action Plan was also made available for public review at Lakewood City Hall and the Angelo M. Iacoboni Library.
