Lakewood residents can drop off household hazardous waste and e-waste at EDCO’s facility in Signal Hill on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., except on observed holiday weekends.
Contact EDCO before visiting to confirm hours, accepted items and any holiday closures.

EDCO transfer station
2755 California Avenue, Signal Hill
Items accepted during Saturday drop-off events
Accepted items may include:
- E-waste, such as televisions, computers, phones and printers
- Batteries
- Light bulbs
- Household toxics, such as paint, insecticides and chemicals
- Used cooking oil and motor oil
- Expired medications
- Sharps in approved or safe containers
Sharps disposal
Sharps should be placed in a state-approved sharps container or a heavy-duty plastic household container that is leak resistant and has a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid, such as a plastic laundry detergent container.
Sharps containers should be upright and stable during use and properly labeled to warn of hazardous waste inside the container.
How to prepare for drive-through disposal
- Clear out your trunk or truck bed before arriving.
- Place items for disposal in open cardboard boxes so staff can remove them easily.
- Keep sharps in a safe container inside the vehicle. You may be asked to exit your vehicle to place them in a designated disposal area.
Other transfer station services
In addition to Saturday household hazardous waste and e-waste drop-off events, EDCO’s facility operates as a transfer station and recycling facility.
For a fee, the facility may accept large or oversized amounts of brick, used lumber and other materials that cannot be placed in residential trash, recycling or green waste carts. Call EDCO at 562-597-0608 before visiting to confirm accepted items, hours and fees.
